About This Destination

A quirky theme park featuring full-scale replicas of world monuments including a Neuschwanstein-style castle, Moai statues, and Terracotta Warriors.
Taiyo Park is one of Japan's strangest theme parks—full-scale replicas of world monuments spread across a hillside in northern Himeji. Two zones: the Castle Zone has a white replica of Germany's Neuschwanstein Castle called Hakuchojo (Castle of the White Bird), and the Stone Zone has Easter Island Moai statues, China's Terracotta Warriors, the Arc de Triomphe, and assorted ancient ruins. Built by a local welfare organization to provide employment for people with disabilities—it has an earnest, handcrafted quality. The Neuschwanstein replica sits on a mountaintop with views. A monorail connects the parking area to the castle. Off the typical tourist path, but good for photos and the surreal experience of walking among world monuments in rural Japan. Allow 2-3 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Taiyo Park?

From JR Himeji Station, take the free shuttle bus (about 30 minutes, limited daily schedule) or Shinki Bus to the 'Taiyo Koen' stop. By car it's about 30 minutes from the station with a large free parking lot on-site. The park's internal monorail connects the Castle Zone and the Stone Zone.

When is the best time to visit Taiyo Park?

Spring (April for cherry blossoms around the Hakuchojo replica) and autumn (November foliage on the surrounding hills) are the most photogenic. Weekdays are quietest — weekends bring local families. Avoid midsummer because there's limited shade across the open hilltop grounds.

What's the entry fee for Taiyo Park?

Adult admission is 1,500 yen, covering both the Castle Zone (with the white Neuschwanstein-style Hakuchojo) and the Stone Zone (Moai statues, Terracotta Warriors, an Arc de Triomphe replica, and other ancient monuments). The internal monorail between the two zones is included in the ticket. Credit cards are accepted.

Where can I eat at Taiyo Park?

There's a sit-down restaurant in the Stone Zone serving Japanese set meals and light dishes, plus a cafe and vending machines around the grounds. Food options are limited compared to central Himeji, so many visitors pack a snack — Himeji Station has far more choices for a meal before or after the visit.
