Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Koko-en Garden?

Koko-en is right next to Himeji Castle. From JR Himeji Station, walk 20 minutes north along Otemae-dori, then turn west at the castle moat. From the castle's main gate it's about a 5-minute walk. Local Shinki Bus from the station also stops at 'Otemon-mae' near the entrance.

When is the best time to visit Koko-en Garden?

Mid- to late November for autumn foliage (especially the maple groves around the main pond) and late March to early April for cherry blossoms are the standout seasons. The garden runs evening illumination during foliage and cherry blossom seasons. Mornings are quietest — combine with Himeji Castle using the discounted joint ticket.

What's the entry fee for Koko-en Garden?

Adult admission is 310 yen for Koko-en alone, or 1,050 yen for a combined ticket with Himeji Castle (a saving of about 260 yen if you visit both). Children pay 150 yen for the garden alone. Tea ceremony at the on-site tea house costs an additional 500 yen for matcha and a wagashi sweet.

Can I have a meal inside Koko-en Garden?

Yes — Kassui-ken restaurant inside the garden serves traditional Japanese set meals with views of the central pond, including seasonal kaiseki courses. Reservations are recommended for kaiseki, especially during cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons. The tea house alongside the main pond offers matcha and wagashi without reservations.
