About This Destination

A one-of-a-kind sanctuary where over 100 foxes of six different species roam freely in a forested mountain setting.
Zao Fox Village is a unique animal sanctuary nestled in the mountains of Shiroishi City, Miyagi Prefecture, where over 100 foxes roam freely in a large, forested enclosure. The park houses six species of fox including the common red fox, silver fox, platinum fox, arctic fox, crossed fox, and red-arctic hybrids. Visitors enter the main enclosure and can walk among the foxes as they play, nap, and interact with each other in a remarkably natural setting. A separate area allows visitors to hold baby foxes during the spring season. The village also has a small Shinto shrine, rabbit enclosures, and goats on the grounds. Located in the foothills of the Zao mountain range, the facility offers a rare opportunity to observe these beautiful animals up close in a semi-wild environment.
