The inverted pyramids on Tokyo Bay. Japan's biggest exhibition venue, and the home of Comiket.

Tokyo Big Sight is the building with four inverted pyramids held above a plaza in Ariake, on reclaimed land in Tokyo Bay. It opened in 1996 and is the largest exhibition centre in Japan. There is no permanent exhibit and no admission on its own account. What is on depends entirely on the calendar: Comiket twice a year, the Japan Mobility Show, trade fairs, and a steady run of industry events. Outside those the halls are shut and the site is quiet. It is still worth the stop for the architecture, which is the reason the building is a landmark rather than just a venue. The conference tower is visible from the Yurikamome line, and the plaza underneath is open.

Can I visit Tokyo Big Sight when no event is on?

The plaza under the conference tower is open and the building is worth seeing from outside, but the exhibition halls are shut between events and there is no permanent exhibit. Check the venue calendar before making the trip.

How do I get there?

Tokyo Big Sight Station on the Yurikamome line is at the door. The Rinkai line's Kokusai-Tenjijo Station is a few minutes' walk and is usually faster from Shibuya or Osaki. On big event days both are crowded and queues start outside the station.
