About This Destination

The smallest of Kanazawa's three former geisha teahouse districts, in the Nomachi area west of the city centre.
Nishi Chaya District is the smallest of Kanazawa's three former geisha teahouse districts, located in the Nomachi area on the west side of the city. A short street is lined with two-story wooden teahouse buildings that show the fine latticed fronts typical of the style. Some buildings still work as teahouses where geisha perform, while others hold cafes, confectioners and a small museum about the district's history. The streets are public and free to walk. It is reached in a few minutes on foot from the Hiroshoji bus stop, or about a 17-minute walk from Nomachi Station on the Hokuriku Railway Ishikawa Line.
