Kanazawa Station

Kanazawa Station is the city's main rail gateway and a sightseeing spot in its own right. Its east (Kenrokuen) side is marked by the Tsuzumi-mon, a large wooden gate about 13.7 metres tall whose two pillars are shaped after the hand drums used in Noh theatre. Beyond it stands the Motenashi Dome, a glass-and-steel canopy of around 3,000 panes built to shelter arriving visitors from Kanazawa's frequent rain and snow. The gate is lit up each evening until around midnight. The station connects to the Hokuriku Shinkansen and local lines and has extensive shops and restaurants inside, making it a common starting point for exploring the city.
