D.T. Suzuki Museum

The D.T. Suzuki Museum is dedicated to Daisetz Teitaro Suzuki, the Kanazawa-born Buddhist philosopher who did much to introduce Zen thought to Western readers. Opened in 2011 and designed by architect Yoshio Taniguchi, it is arranged as three low buildings and three gardens connected by corridors, with a central Water Mirror Garden meant for quiet reflection. The exhibits present Suzuki's life, writings and ideas rather than a large collection of objects, and the building is designed to encourage contemplation. It is in the Honda-machi area, a short bus ride or walk from central Kanazawa. Admission is 310 yen for adults and free for high school students and younger, and it is closed on Mondays.
