Founded 678 AD, one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Kyoto. Dedicated to the thunder god Kamo Wakeikazuchi. UNESCO World Heritage. The distinctive feature: a pair of cone-shaped sand mounds (tatesuna) in front of the worship hall, representing sacred mountains and used in purification rituals.
