About This Destination

Two 40-story towers connected by an open-air rooftop deck at 173 meters. The glass-tube escalator between towers is the thrill. Glowing floor panels at night. Retro food street in the basement.
The Umeda Sky Building is one of Osaka's most recognizable landmarks, designed by architect Hiroshi Hara and completed in 1993. Its most striking feature is the Floating Garden Observatory, an open-air circular deck on the rooftop that connects the two 40-story towers 173 meters above ground. The observatory spans the 39th, 40th, and rooftop floors, with an escalator ride through a glass tube between the towers providing a thrilling ascent. The rooftop deck features luminous floor panels that glow at night, creating a romantic atmosphere. In the basement, the Takimi-Koji alley recreates a retro Showa-era dining street with yakitori, okonomiyaki, and other Osaka favorites. The building is a short walk from JR Osaka Station through an underground passage.
