About This Destination

A groundbreaking digital art museum by teamLab where immersive artworks flow between rooms, respond to visitors, and create an ever-changing world without boundaries.
teamLab Borderless is a revolutionary digital art museum created by the internationally acclaimed art collective teamLab. Relocated to Azabudai Hills in 2024 after its original Odaiba venue, the museum presents a world of immersive artworks that flow freely between rooms, merge with one another, and respond to the presence and movement of visitors. The concept of borderless refers both to the physical absence of boundaries between artworks and to the dissolution of boundaries between artwork and viewer. Visitors wander through darkened spaces where cascading waterfalls of light transform into fields of flowers at their feet, where digital butterflies land on outstretched hands, and where the entire environment shifts and evolves in real time. Each visit is unique as the artworks are constantly changing based on the time of day, season, and interaction with other visitors. The experience typically takes two to three hours. Advance tickets are strongly recommended as the museum frequently sells out, and wearing white or light-colored clothing enhances the visual experience as the projections play across your body.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to teamLab Borderless?

The new location at Azabudai Hills opened in 2024. From Tokyo Metro Kamiyacho Station (Hibiya Line) it's a 5-minute walk via the underground passage; from Roppongi-Itchome Station (Namboku Line) 4 minutes. Tokyo Station to Azabudai is 18 minutes by Hibiya Line (¥180). Note: this is a new location — the previous Odaiba site closed in 2022, and many older travel guides still list the wrong address.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes — strongly recommended. Tickets sell out 2–4 weeks ahead during weekends, holidays, and summer/winter vacation periods. Time-slot tickets (every 30 minutes) start at ¥3,800 weekday adults, ¥4,200 weekends/holidays. Buy via the official site (teamlab.art/e/borderless-azabudai/), Klook, or Trip.com. Photography allowed but no flash; tripods, monopods and selfie sticks are prohibited. Plan 2–3 hours inside.

What should I wear and bring?

White or light-colored clothing maximises projection effects on your body — strikingly enhances photos. Skirts and dresses are not ideal as some rooms have mirrored floors (free skirt-cover available). Wear comfortable shoes for 2+ hours of walking through dim, varied surfaces. Bring a phone for photography (flash off), and a charged battery pack — the museum can absorb 60% of your battery in 2 hours. Coat-check available.

What makes Borderless different from teamLab Planets?

Borderless = walking gallery with artworks that move between rooms. More cerebral and atmospheric. Planets (Toyosu) = fully immersive 'wade-into-the-art' experience — you walk barefoot through ankle-deep water in some rooms. Planets is more dramatic and Instagram-friendly; Borderless is more contemplative. Both deserve visits if time allows. Borderless is closer to central Tokyo (Azabudai vs Toyosu); Planets has more theatrical 'wow' moments.
