About This Destination

A stunning underground space carved out of Oya stone quarries, with soaring 30-meter ceilings reminiscent of an underground cathedral. Used as a filming location and concert venue. The temperature stays around 7C year-round.
Descend into a vast underground cathedral carved from Oya stone quarries, where 30-meter ceilings and dramatic lighting create an atmosphere more alien planet than Japanese countryside. This remarkable space, maintaining a constant cool temperature year-round, has served as a backdrop for films, weddings, art exhibitions, and concerts since opening to the public. The soft green volcanic tuff quarried here for centuries built Frank Lloyd Wright's Imperial Hotel and continues to shape contemporary architecture and sculpture.
