Michi-no-Eki Utsunomiya Romantic Mura
About This Destination
Romantic Mura opened as a city park in 1996 and was relaunched as Utsunomiya's first roadside station in 2012. It is far bigger than a typical michi-no-eki: about 46 hectares of fields and wooded hills, with a hot spring, an indoor pool, lodging and a dog run. Plan on a few hours, not a quick toilet stop.
The Aozora-kan shop gathers souvenirs from across Tochigi, plus some specialties from outside the prefecture. Yudokoro Agri is a natural hot spring with open-air baths, and the park's own craft brewery grows and malts some of its barley on site. Mugitaro is the beer the brewery calls its most popular.
The park normally closes on the second Tuesday of each month, and the bath, shop and restaurants keep different hours. The city is studying a redevelopment of the park, so facilities may change in coming years. Check the official site for closures and current bath prices before you go.
