Mori Art Museum and Tokyo City View
About This Destination
The elevator from the third floor of Roppongi Hills goes straight up to the 52nd floor of Mori Tower, and most people stop at the glass before they find the escalator to the galleries one floor up. The Mori Art Museum opened here in October 2003 as a contemporary art museum, with a stated aim of giving young artists from Japan and the rest of Asia a place to show their work. There is no permanent display. Exhibitions rotate, each running for a few months with its own ticket price, and between them the museum shuts for several weeks while the next one goes in, so check the schedule before you plan a day around it. The hours are the real draw: 10:00 to 22:00 on every day but Tuesday, when it closes at 17:00. Tokyo City View, the indoor observation deck on the 52nd floor, sells its own ticket, and the museum ticket does not cover it. Weekend and holiday tickets cost more than weekday ones, and booking a timed slot online is cheaper, but online tickets cannot be changed or refunded. You enter through the glass Museum Cone on the second floor and buy tickets on the third.
