About This Destination

Ogo is a small roadside station in Kobe’s northern farming district, beside the Miki-Sanda prefectural road. Local rice, vegetables and flowers share space with a soba restaurant, making this a countryside stop well away from the city’s waterfront.

Kobe’s municipal boundary reaches well beyond the port into farming settlements, and Ogo is a good place to see that rural side of the city. The roadside station sits on Prefectural Route 38, the Miki-Sanda road, in Kita Ward. It suits a short shopping and lunch break while driving between the surrounding country towns.

The produce counter brings together locally grown rice, vegetables and flowers. What is on the shelves depends on the season, so choose from the day’s harvest rather than expecting a fixed souvenir selection. The restaurant’s soba is made with Japanese-grown buckwheat; that does not mean all its flour is grown in Ogo. The nearby Ogo Castle ruins add historical context to the district, but are a separate stop from the market.

Use the full Ogo address when planning your journey. This is not a walk out from central Kobe’s waterfront attractions. Check shop and restaurant hours independently before setting out, especially if lunch is the main reason for the detour.
