Michi-no-Eki Tamba Obaachan-no-Sato
About This Destination
Tamba Obaachan-no-Sato is a practical introduction to the farming country around Kasuga. Beside Route 175 near the expressway interchange, it brings local crops and products from Tamba businesses into one shopping stop. Black soybeans, chestnuts and Dainagon azuki beans are among the region’s specialties, but the produce on the day depends on the harvest.
There is more to do here than fill a shopping bag. A restaurant uses regional ingredients, and the gelato counter changes its flavors with local milk, fruit and vegetables. Outside, a grassy area and play equipment give families somewhere to pause. The grounds also include an archaeological park associated with the Nanokaichi settlement site, adding another layer to a stop that might otherwise be only about lunch.
Choose the station for a break during a drive through Tamba rather than expecting every local sight within walking distance. Check the restaurant and shop notices before arrival; the roadside rest facilities do not imply that food is available at every hour.
