About This Destination

An old-school amusement park on a wooded hill east of Inuyama, with a coaster that runs through the trees, a log-flume drop, a big Ferris wheel and a summer pool. Easy to pair with Inuyama Castle on a day from Nagoya.

Japan Monkey Park, Monpa to locals, is a Meitetsu-run amusement park on a forested hillside a short ride from Inuyama Station. It has more than thirty attractions, and the hill shapes the best of them: the Highway Coaster threads through the woods on the slope, and Canyon Splash floats you along a channel before dropping straight off a cliff edge into the water. The giant Ferris wheel looks out over Inuyama and the Kiso River area. The rest is gentle stuff for small children, including the Monkey Coaster, which kids can ride from age five with an adult.

The railway owner shows through. In March 2024 the Meitetsu Group opened Monkey Park Station, a train museum inside the park with its own entry fee. In summer the Monpuru water park opens, with a lazy river and a 15 m slide. In 2026 the park also ran evening openings until 20:00 with fireworks at the end of the night.

One thing has changed nearby. The Japan Monkey Centre, the separate primate zoo next door that many guides still bundle with the park, closed after 18 October 2026 for a renovation expected to take several years. The amusement park itself carries on. A one-day passport with unlimited rides costs ¥3,900 for adults at the regular rate; admission alone is cheaper if you only want a few rides.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still see the monkeys at Japan Monkey Park?

Not at the moment. The monkeys were at the Japan Monkey Centre, a separate zoo next door, and it closed after 18 October 2026 for a renovation planned to last several years. Japan Monkey Park is an amusement park and stays open as usual.

How do I get to Japan Monkey Park from Nagoya?

Take the Meitetsu Inuyama Line to Inuyama Station, then either a bus to the park or a walk of about 20 minutes east. Inuyama Castle and the old castle town are on the other side of the station, so the two fit into one day.
