Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri
Osaka · Float procession
Wooden floats weighing several tonnes are pulled at a sprint and turned through ninety degrees without slowing, with a man dancing on the roof. Osaka's most dangerous festival, and it does not pretend otherwise.
Dates
19 to 20 September 2026
The September run. The city has published these dates.
The September run is held over the weekend before Respect for the Aged Day. A second, separate run takes place in October in other districts of the city.
Getting a good spot
The corners are the places to be and also the places the barriers exist for. Stand behind them and do not step into the road to photograph a float coming, because it will not be able to stop. Kishiwada is under half an hour from Namba on the Nankai line, and the trains back after the evening run are full.

Common questions
When is the Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri?
The main run is the weekend before Respect for the Aged Day in September. A separate October festival is held in other districts of the same city, so check which one you are looking at.
Is it safe to watch?
Yes, from behind the barriers, which are there for a reason. The floats cannot stop or steer once they are running, and injuries among the crews happen most years. Do not stand in the road for a photograph.
