About This Destination

Yokohama's tallest building at 296 meters with the Sky Garden observatory on the 69th floor offering panoramic views of the city, harbor, and Mount Fuji on clear days.
Standing at 296.3 meters, the Yokohama Landmark Tower has been the defining feature of the Minato Mirai 21 waterfront district since its completion in 1993. The Sky Garden observation deck on the 69th floor is reached by one of Japan's fastest elevators, ascending 273 meters in approximately 40 seconds. On clear days, the 360-degree panoramic views extend from the sprawling Yokohama cityscape and harbor to the distant peak of Mount Fuji and the skyscrapers of central Tokyo. The tower's lower floors house the Landmark Plaza shopping mall with over 170 shops and restaurants, while the Yokohama Royal Park Hotel occupies floors 49 through 70. The surrounding Minato Mirai district, with its futuristic architecture and waterfront boardwalks, makes for an excellent area to explore before or after visiting the tower.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Yokohama Landmark Tower?

From JR/Subway Sakuragicho Station, walk 5 minutes via the elevated 'Moving Walk' moving sidewalk that runs through the Minatomirai entrance. From Minatomirai Line's Minatomirai Station, walk 3 minutes (Exit 5). From Tokyo Station: 25 min via JR Tokaido or Yokosuka Line, then transfer (¥530). The Sky Garden observation deck (69th floor) entry is on B1F of Landmark Plaza — take the dedicated elevator (40 sec to reach 273m, fastest in Japan).

What's the entry fee and what can I see?

Adult ¥1,000, junior high/high school ¥800, child ¥500, under 4 free. Open 10:00–21:00 (Saturdays until 22:00; last entry 30 min before close). The 360° Sky Garden offers views of: east — Yokohama Bay/Bay Bridge/Tokyo skyline (Mt. Fuji on clear winter days); south — Minato Mirai 21 buildings; west — Mt. Tanzawa range; north — Tokyo Skytree visible 30 km away. The Royal Park Hotel occupies floors 52–67 — Sirius bar (52F) cocktails come without observation deck fee but require dress code.

When is the best time to visit?

Sunset (45 min before, year-round) for golden hour with Mt. Fuji silhouette in winter (December–February best). Evening (19:00–21:00) for the magical Yokohama night skyline — arguably the most beautiful in Japan with Bay Bridge illumination. Mid-week mornings are quietest. Avoid Saturday afternoons. Combine the visit with the elevator ride at the same time (40 sec ascent + 90 minutes deck = 100 minutes total). Add Cosmoworld Ferris wheel and Cup Noodles Museum for a Minato Mirai full day.

Is there an alternative observation deck nearby?

Yes — Yokohama City Hall observation hall (32F, free) gives a similar view at zero cost (Mon–Fri 8:30–22:00, weekends 10:00–22:00; closed for events). Minato Mirai's 27F INTERCONTINENTAL hotel lobby is also free for hotel guests/lobby visitors. The Cup Noodles Museum's Hattori Museum 4F deck (free) is closer to the bay. For a paid alternative with similar height: Sky Spa Yokohama (24F, ¥3,000 includes onsen). The Landmark Tower remains the highest publicly-accessible observation deck in Yokohama.
