About This Destination

Japan's largest and most vibrant Chinatown, home to over 500 restaurants and shops in colorful streets.
Yokohama Chinatown is the largest Chinatown in Japan and one of the largest in the world, spanning over 500 meters with more than 500 shops and restaurants behind its ornate gates. Founded in 1859 when the port of Yokohama opened to foreign trade, the neighborhood has grown into a cultural landmark featuring four grand Chinese gates, the colorful Kanteibyo Temple dedicated to Guan Yu, and endless street food stalls selling nikuman steamed buns, sesame dumplings, and Peking duck. The area is especially festive during Chinese New Year celebrations and the mid-autumn lantern festival.
