About This Destination

A man-made island in southern Yokohama with four aquariums and a seaside ride area. Walking onto the island is free; you pay for the aquariums and rides, from the Surf Coaster Leviathan over the water to rides added in August 2026.

Hakkeijima is an artificial island off the Kanazawa district of southern Yokohama, joined to the mainland by a bridge. The island itself is free to walk around, and on a sunny day the promenade, lawns and sea views are enough for a cheap afternoon. You only pay for what you go into.

The aquariums are the main draw. Aqua Museum, the largest, holds around 700 species and 120,000 animals, with a school of about 50,000 sardines and the Animal Life Live! dolphin and sea-animal show. Dolphin Fantasy, Fureai Lagoon and Umi Farm are smaller and more hands-on. In the Pleasure Land ride area, the Surf Coaster Leviathan swings out over the sea, and part of the area reopened on 1 August 2026 as OTO-RACTION PARK, where SONIC TUNE! and ROCKY EAGLE pick music with AI based on your mood.

The One Day Pass covers the four aquariums and the rides; the Aqua Resorts Pass is aquariums only. Weekends in summer are crowded, and the island is exposed, so bring a layer on windy days.
