About This Destination

A massive multi-story themed bath complex in Shinsekai featuring hot springs inspired by bathing cultures from Europe and Asia.
Spa World is one of Osaka's most unique attractions, a sprawling multi-story hot spring theme park located in the heart of the Shinsekai entertainment district. The facility features two main bathing zones that rotate monthly between genders: a European zone inspired by ancient Roman, Greek, and Mediterranean bathing traditions, and an Asian zone drawing from Japanese, Balinese, and Persian bath cultures. Beyond the themed baths, the complex houses a large indoor pool area with water slides popular with families, stone spa relaxation rooms, restaurants, and even a hotel for overnight stays. Weekday admission is 1200 yen for adults, rising to 1500 yen on weekends and holidays. Located just steps from Dobutsuen-mae Station and within easy walking distance of Tsutenkaku Tower, it pairs perfectly with a day exploring the retro charm of Shinsekai.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Spa World?

From Dobutsuen-mae Station (Midosuji or Sakaisuji Subway Lines, exit 5), it's a 1-minute walk south. From JR Shin-Imamiya Station, walk 3 minutes east. The building is impossible to miss — it's the giant white complex right next to Tsutenkaku Tower in Shinsekai. Pair with kushikatsu in Shinsekai for a perfect Osaka comfort day.

What's the entry fee and what's included?

Adult ¥1,500 weekdays, ¥1,800 weekends/holidays; ages 6–11 ¥1,000; under 6 free. Includes all bathing zones (European or Asian — they alternate by gender each month, so check the website for which zone you'll experience), the indoor pool with water slides, and use of relaxation rooms. Towels rent ¥200–400. Open 10:00–08:45 next morning (closed briefly 8:45–10:00 for cleaning); overnight stays add a midnight surcharge of ¥1,500.

What should I know about onsen etiquette?

Wash thoroughly at the seated showers BEFORE entering any bath. Bathing is naked — no swimsuits inside. Long hair must be tied up; the small towel can cover modesty when walking but doesn't go in the water. Tattoos: Spa World is more relaxed than most onsens but discreet small tattoos are best. Cover them with provided patches (free at front desk) if visible. Photography is strictly prohibited; lockers are provided for phones and bags.

Can I stay overnight or come for a few hours?

Both. Capsule sleeping pods (¥3,500–4,500) are available for overnight stays — popular with travelers between trains. There's also a regular hotel attached. For day visits, plan 3–5 hours: 1.5 hours each in the European/Asian zones, plus pool time and a meal. Restaurants on-site allow you to skip leaving and re-entering. Note: tattoo cover-ups required even for the pool. Lockers fit small carry-ons; large luggage check at Shin-Imamiya Station.
