About This Destination

Pristine mountain stream flowing through ancient beech forest with countless waterfalls and moss-covered rocks.
Oirase Gorge is a 14-kilometer mountain stream flowing from Lake Towada through pristine beech and cedar forests in Aomori Prefecture. The trail along the stream passes countless waterfalls, including the famous Choshi Otaki and Kumoi no Taki, alongside moss-covered boulders and crystal-clear pools. Designated as a Special Scenic Beauty and Natural Monument, the gorge is spectacular in all seasons but reaches its peak beauty during autumn when the surrounding forest erupts in brilliant reds and golds.
