Michi-no-Eki Woody Keihoku
About This Destination
Woody Keihoku puts the wooded northern part of Kyoto on the shopping shelves. The station is in Shuzan, around the meeting of Routes 162 and 477, on the road historically known as the western Saba Kaido. Although the address is still Kyoto City, the surrounding country is a landscape of forestry, rivers and small settlements.
Local vegetables share space with processed foods and wooden goods. That mix makes the station more interesting than a stop for drinks alone: the timber products give some context to the forests you pass on the way here. A restaurant uses local rice and vegetables, so a meal can be part of a slower drive through Keihoku.
The station is a starting point for exploring rather than the whole outing. Joshokoji Temple and the Utsukyo area lie farther away and need their own travel time. Check shop and restaurant hours before setting out, and plan the rural road journey separately from a central-Kyoto sightseeing day.
