Michi-no-Eki Park Shichiri Mihama

Park Shichiri Mihama sits on Route 42 in Atawa, a minute's walk from JR Atawa Station, facing the Kumano Sea. Mihama calls itself the town where mandarins can be picked all year, and the station leans into it. The ground-floor Hamakaido market sells local fish, produce, seasonal citrus and Kishu souvenirs.

The Orange Plaza juice plant on the third floor presses local fruit into 100 percent juice. You watch through a window, and the operator says October to March, on weekday mornings other than Sundays, is the likeliest time to see it running. Some days nothing is happening. The bottled range is long (unshu, ponkan, setoka, Meyer lemon and more), but stock has been limited since the hot 2024 season.

Across the road is Shichiri Mihama, the pebble shore that forms part of the Kumano Kodo Iseji pilgrimage route. Kumano Hayatama Taisha in Shingu and the Onigajo sea caves are each about 20 minutes away by car. This is a sensible place to stretch your legs between Kumano city and Shingu rather than a destination for a whole morning.
