Michi-no-Eki Hagi Sea Mart
About This Destination
Hagi Sea Mart opened in April 2001 right next to the fishing port, and the fish auction is next door. Several fishmongers share the hall, each with its own focus, so one counter may have live fish while the next sells sashimi packs. Ask the staff what came in that morning. Talking to the sellers is how the place is meant to work.
Not everything here swims. Stalls also sell processed seafood, Yamaguchi farm produce and Hagi souvenirs. If you are staying in town and cannot cook fish, the restaurants are the easier option: Kihagi, among others, serves seafood bowls with fish from the market.
The station sits on a prefectural road just off Route 191 at the eastern edge of town, and the Maaru loop bus stops outside. From March to October it closes at 18:00, and in winter (November to February) at 17:00. It closes on New Year's Day and on about one other day a month.
