Michi-no-Eki Boyo Nakayama
About This Destination
Michi-no-Eki Boyo Nakayama sits right at the top of Nakayama Pass on Route 230, on the Kimobetsu side of the boundary with Sapporo. The name means roughly "looking out at Yotei", and on a clear day the cone of Mt. Yotei fills the view to the west. The station dates from 1993, when the existing pass-top shop was registered as a michi-no-eki.
Age-imo is the reason for the queue. Danshaku potatoes are skewered, dipped in a slightly sweet batter and fried, and the takeout counter sells them all day. In autumn 2026 a limited "premium" version in three coloured batters is on sale from 1 October to 8 November, from 9:00 until it sells out. The Shikisai restaurant serves handmade soba and dishes using Kimobetsu produce at lunchtime.
Weekends in the foliage season get crowded, and the station has extended its hours on peak days to cope. In winter the pass is a snowy mountain road, so drive on winter tyres and leave time. The takeout counter shortens its hours from November to March, and the whole building closed for repairs from late January to mid-February 2026, so check notices before a winter trip.
