Michi-no-Eki Mashu Onsen
About This Destination
Readers of Hokkaido Jalan voted Michi-no-Eki Mashu Onsen third in the whole of Hokkaido in the 2026 roadside station ranking. It is not a big food hall. The draw is the location and the footbath. Three main routes come together here, so most drives between Lake Akan, Lake Mashu, Lake Kussharo and the Shiretoko side pass close by.
The footbath is a stone tub fed with hot spring water, free and open 24 hours. The water runs hot. Bring your own towel and skip the soap. Inside, the tourist information office is certified by JNTO for overseas visitors, with staff who can help with sightseeing, accommodation and transport around Teshikaga, plus free Wi-Fi and a computer for visitors.
The shop sells local products and light snacks, enough for a coffee break but not a full lunch, so plan meals in town. JR Mashu Station is about five minutes away by car and has its own free footbath. Teshikaga winters are cold and the lake viewpoints can be affected by snow, so ask at the counter about road conditions before heading up.
