Michi-no-Eki A-ra-Date
About This Destination
Iwadeyama was Date Masamune’s base before Sendai, and the station’s name is a pun on the clan. Its other Date connection explains the oddest shelf in the building. In 1871 Date Kuninao, lord of Iwadeyama, led his retainers north to settle Tobetsu in Hokkaido, where Royce’ makes its chocolate. The sister-town link means you can buy Royce’ here, and there is a Royce’ soft-serve stand too.
Most people come for the farm market, though. Produce from around Osaki fills it, and the place draws more than three million visitors a year, so weekends get crowded. There are counters for soba, bread and gelato as well as a sit-down restaurant. Jalan’s 2026 survey put it second in Japan for visitor satisfaction, up from fifth the year before.
The station stands on Route 47 near JR Ikezuki Station on the Rikuu East Line, about 20 minutes from Furukawa IC on the Tohoku Expressway. Hours are shorter in winter, so check the current schedule if you are driving up to Naruko late in the day.
