About This Destination
Kinosaki Onsen is a picturesque traditional hot spring town where visitors stroll between seven public bathhouses in yukata robes along a willow-lined canal.
Kinosaki Onsen has been welcoming bathers for over 1,300 years and remains one of Japan's most atmospheric onsen towns. The town's signature experience is hopping between seven public bathhouses (sotoyu), each with a distinct character — from the cave-like Ichino-yu to the modernist Satono-yu. Most ryokan provide yukata robes and wooden geta sandals for guests to wear while exploring the town, creating a wonderfully traditional scene along the willow-draped Otani River. In winter, Kinosaki is famous for Matsuba crab, considered among the finest snow crab in Japan. The town is also a gateway to the stunning San'in Kaigan Geopark coastline, and a ropeway offers panoramic views from Mount Daishi.
