About This Destination

A reconstructed hilltop castle above Kintaikyo Bridge, with views over the Nishiki River and Iwakuni.

Iwakuni Castle occupies the hill above the old castle town and Kintaikyo Bridge. The present keep is a reconstruction, while the hill preserves traces of the earlier castle. The usual visitor route combines the ropeway from the foot of the hill with a walk to the keep. Allow time for both stages and check ropeway operations before committing to the ascent.

Opening hours: Mon–Sun 09:00–16:45

Closed: Closed for about a month from mid-January to mid-February for the ropeway's annual inspection, and on some other inspection days.

Hours note: Last entry 16:30. On some monthly inspection days the castle and ropeway close from 14:00. The ropeway runs 9:00 to 17:00 every 15 minutes.
