Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Ichiran Shinjuku?

Located in the basement (B1F) of the Peace Building at 3-34-11 Shinjuku, a 5-minute walk from JR Shinjuku Station's East Exit (Higashi-guchi) — head down Shinjuku-dori, turn right at the crossing toward Yasukuni-dori. Multiple other Ichiran branches in Tokyo include Shibuya, Asakusa, Atre Ueno, and Roppongi. The Shinjuku branch is open 24 hours, the only branch matching late-night demand. Ichiran offers 9 Tokyo locations total.

How does the solo dining booth work?

Each customer sits in an individual wooden booth with side partitions blocking neighbors. A small bamboo curtain in front separates you from the staff who deliver the bowl. Order via vending machine first, then receive a paper form to customize 7 elements: noodle firmness, broth richness, garlic, scallions, chashu, secret red sauce, and Kaedama (extra noodles). Hand the form to staff through the curtain. Staff lower the curtain when serving, then disappear — pure ramen-and-you experience. Lift the curtain when you want service or to leave.

How much does it cost?

Standard tonkotsu ramen ¥980. Add-ons: Kaedama extra noodles ¥210, extra chashu (3 slices) ¥390, soft-boiled egg ¥140, garlic boost ¥120, the famous secret red sauce upgrade ¥120 (very spicy). Total typical bill ¥1,200–1,600 with extras. Cash and IC cards (Suica, Pasmo) accepted at the vending machine. No tipping. The Shinjuku branch's classic combination set with kaedama and extra chashu runs about ¥1,580.

How long is the wait?

The Shinjuku 24-hour branch sees ramen-fans 24/7. Lunch (12:00–14:00) and dinner (18:00–21:00) reach 30–60 minute waits. Late-night (22:00–01:00) on weekdays is 15–30 min. Pure off-peak: 03:00–08:00 walk-in. Even faster at the Roppongi or Atre Ueno branches. Solo travellers get fastest seating. The queue moves smoothly because dining is fast (15–25 min average). Bring your phone — there are wall hooks for jackets and bags inside the booth.
