Angel Road

Angel Road is a sandbar on the west side of Shodoshima that appears about twice a day around low tide, when a strip of sand links a chain of small islands. The path is walkable for roughly three hours around each low tide, so visitors check the daily tide table before crossing. Local tradition holds that couples who cross hand in hand will have their wishes granted. A promontory called Yakusokuno-oka (Hill of Promise) overlooks the sandbar and has a small rest area and shop. It is about a 5-minute drive or a 10-minute local bus ride from Tonosho Port. Because the crossing depends on tide levels, plan the visit around the posted tide schedule.
