寒霞溪

Kankakei is a gorge in the mountainous interior of Shodoshima, formed by volcanic rock that has been eroded into cliffs and unusual formations. It lies within the Setonaikai National Park and is often cited as one of Japan's notable gorge landscapes. A ropeway runs between Kououn Station near Kusakabe and the summit station in about five minutes, passing over the valley. The area draws the most visitors in mid to late November for the autumn foliage, though spring greenery and winter snow also draw travelers. The ropeway costs about 1,100 yen one way and 1,970 yen round trip for adults, and hiking trails connect the summit and base. From Kusakabe Port it is about a 15-minute drive, or a bus from Ikeda Port reaches Kououn Station.
