關於此目的地

A Japanese pond garden northeast of Hikone Castle, built for the Ii lords and designated a national scenic beauty spot.
Genkyu-en is a pond garden laid out northeast of Hikone Castle for the Ii lords who ruled the domain. It is said to have been created in 1677 by Ii Naooki, the fourth lord, and its design draws on famous scenic views, including the Eight Views of Omi around Lake Biwa. A large central pond is set with islands, bridges, and a teahouse where visitors can look back toward the castle keep. Together with the adjoining Rakuraku-en, it is designated a national scenic beauty spot under the name Genkyu-Rakuraku-en. The garden is a short walk from Hikone Castle and can be entered on a garden-only ticket or a combined ticket with the castle. Spring greenery and autumn foliage are the busiest times, and seasonal evening illuminations are sometimes held.
