About This Destination
Yufuin is a charming onsen town nestled at the foot of Mount Yufu, celebrated for its art museums, boutique ryokan, and the misty morning views over Lake Kinrinko.
Yufuin consistently ranks among Japan's most beloved onsen destinations, offering a more intimate and artistic atmosphere compared to the larger neighboring resort of Beppu. The main Yunotsubo Street leads from the station to Lake Kinrinko, lined with stylish cafes, galleries, and artisan shops selling everything from handmade glass to local honey. The lake is at its most magical at dawn when warm spring water meeting cool air creates an ethereal mist hovering over the surface. The town is home to several excellent small art museums, including the Marc Chagall Museum and the Yufuin Trick Art Museum. For the best experience, stay overnight at one of the town's many ryokan to enjoy private outdoor baths with views of Mount Yufu.
