Tokyo DisneySea

There is only one DisneySea in the world, and it is not owned by Disney. The Oriental Land Company built and runs both Tokyo parks under licence, which is why this one exists at all: it was designed for a specific Japanese audience with money to spend on detail, and the result is regularly called the best-themed theme park anywhere.

The park is built around a harbour and divided into eight ports of call. Mediterranean Harbor is an Italian port town with a working canal and gondolas. Mysterious Island sits inside the caldera of an artificial volcano that erupts on a schedule, with two Jules Verne rides underneath it. American Waterfront has the Tower of Terror, which here has an original story about a cursed hotel rather than the Twilight Zone framing used in Florida. Fantasy Springs, opened in 2024, added areas for Frozen, Tangled and Peter Pan and has its own entry restrictions.

Two differences from Tokyo Disneyland next door. This park serves alcohol, and it is aimed at adults as much as children, so the queues are full of couples and groups of friends rather than families.

Practical, and this matters more than anywhere. Tickets are dated and sold online in advance; popular days sell out. Premier Access, the paid queue skip, is bought per ride in the app on the day and the good ones go within the hour. Weekday visits outside school holidays are a different park from a Saturday.

From Tokyo Station, Maihama is fifteen minutes on the Keiyo line, then the monorail.
