About This Destination

Japan's only beer museum, housed in an atmospheric red-brick Meiji-era building with tastings available.
The Sapporo Beer Museum is the only beer museum in Japan, located in a handsome red-brick building dating from the Meiji era. The free self-guided exhibition on the second and third floors traces the history of beer in Japan and the story of Sapporo Beer from its founding in 1876. The museum houses original brewing equipment, vintage advertisements, and historical artifacts. An optional Premium Guided Tour offers a 50-minute experience including three tastings of classic beers. Adjacent to the museum is the Sapporo Beer Garden, set in another historic red-brick hall, where visitors can enjoy fresh draft beer and the famous Genghis Khan (grilled lamb) barbecue. The museum is a ten-minute walk from Higashi-Kuyakusho-Mae subway station.
