Noboribetsu Date Jidaimura
About This Destination
Noboribetsu Date Jidaimura rebuilds a stretch of Edo-period Japan on the way up to Noboribetsu Onsen, with old-style streets and buildings to wander and staff in period costume. There are no rides. You come for the live performances, which run every day and are the reason to set aside half a day rather than an hour.
The best known is the ninja show at Ninja Kasumi Yashiki, a theatre whose stage is full of trick mechanisms, with the fights happening right in front of you. There are also ninja demonstrations at an outdoor fort, and at the Japanese traditional culture theatre an oiran, a high-ranking courtesan in heavy layered kimono, performs a slow, formal dance. Between shows you can try shuriken throwing, rent a costume, or walk the lanes. Some of it is aimed at Japanese families and comes without much English, but the action scenes need no translation.
Adult admission is ¥3,300 in 2026. The village opens at 9:00 and closes at 17:00 from late March through October and at 16:00 in winter, with entry until an hour before closing and a few maintenance closures in winter. The Donan bus from JR Noboribetsu Station takes about eight minutes to the Jidaimura-mae stop, and from the Noboribetsu Higashi IC on the Do-o Expressway it is about three minutes by car.

No. It is a show-based theme park. The draw is the ninja action at Ninja Kasumi Yashiki, the outdoor ninja demonstrations and the oiran dance, along with hands-on extras like shuriken throwing and costume rental.
Can I combine Date Jidaimura with Noboribetsu Onsen?
Yes, easily. The village sits on the bus route between JR Noboribetsu Station and the hot spring town, about eight minutes from the station, so it fits on the way in or out of an onsen stay.
