Get DirectionsFrequently Asked Questions
How do I get to Myoko Kogen from Tokyo?
Take the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Joetsu-Myoko in about 2 hours, then transfer to the Echigo Tokimeki Railway to Myokokogen Station, which takes around 20 minutes. Shuttle buses run from there to the ski resorts.
What is Myoko Kogen known for?
It sits under the 2,454 m Mt. Myoko and has heavy-snowfall ski areas, including Suginohara with one of Japan's longest runs at about 8.5 km and Seki Onsen's deep powder. It has seven hot-spring sources with different water colors, and in the green season Imori Pond mirrors Mt. Myoko.
When is the best time to visit and what about the hot springs?
Winter, roughly December to March, is the season for skiing the deep snow at Akakura Onsen, Akakura Kanko, Suginohara, and Seki Onsen. The hot springs vary by source, such as Akakura's calcium sulfate water and Tsubame's white water, so you can compare different baths year-round.
