How do I get to Miharu Takizakura?
Take the JR Ban-etsu East Line from Koriyama to Miharu Station, about 13 minutes. During the bloom season a Taki-zakura-go shuttle bus runs from the station to the tree in about 15 minutes.
What is Miharu Takizakura known for?
It is a weeping cherry tree more than 1,000 years old, named the waterfall cherry because its drooping branches look like falling water. It is one of Japan's Three Great Cherry Trees and has been a national natural monument since 1922, standing about 13.5 m tall with a crown over 20 m wide.
When is the best time to visit and is there a fee?
The tree blooms from mid to late April, with evening light-ups during the season. A maintenance fee of 500 yen applies during the bloom period; go early in the morning to avoid the large crowds at peak bloom.
