Michi-no-Eki Tarumizu
About This Destination
Sit at the footbath at Michi-no-Eki Tarumizu and Sakurajima fills the view across Kinko Bay, with the Kirishima mountains further off on a clear day. The bath is 60 meters long, fed with natural hot spring water and free to use from noon until sunset. It is the main reason people stop, and on a cool afternoon it is hard to leave.
The station is called Yuttarikan, a pun on "relaxing" and "feet". Inside there is also a bathhouse with a radon spring for a full soak, a shop with products from Tarumizu and the rest of Kagoshima, and a takeout counter whose loquat soft serve is the popular order. The lunchtime restaurant uses Buri Taisho yellowtail and Umi no Oukan amberjack, both farmed in Tarumizu, in its seafood bowls, and Sakurajima Biyuton pork in a pork bowl.
Do not count on every part being open. The bathhouse closes on Wednesdays, the whole station closes on the third Wednesday of most months, and in early October 2026 the operator posted notices of breaks for both the bathhouse and the footbath. Check the official news page first. Another station, Tarumizu Hamabira, is further south in the same city; this one is at Ushinefumoto on the north side.
