Michi-no-Eki Shinshu Tsutaki-juku
About This Destination
Tsutaki was a post town on the Koshu Kaido, the Edo-period road from Edo into the Suwa basin. Its namesake station sits on Route 20 in Fujimi, a few kilometers past Kobuchizawa IC on the Chuo Expressway, and makes a good first or last stop in Nagano when driving to or from Yamanashi. The Yatsugatake and Southern Alps foothills rise on both sides of the valley.
The station reopened on 24 April 2026 after an extension. The shop is now brighter and larger, with more vegetables from local farms, Suwa-area souvenirs, a new corner for Yatsugatake and Suwa sweets and a self-service machine for comparing sake from nine Suwa breweries. If you are the driver, buy a bottle instead. The restaurant serves soba, and a soba-making class runs once a month.
Tsuta-no-Yu, the on-site hot spring, has an open-air bath and sauna and is open until 21:00 (last entry 20:30). Everything except the toilets, car park and EV charger closes on Tuesdays (Wednesday when Tuesday is a holiday), which catches out a lot of people.
