Michi-no-Eki Kisakata Nemu-no-Oka
About This Destination
Come for the bath at the end of the day. Chokai no Yu is on the fourth floor, with windows onto the Sea of Japan, and the sun sets straight across the water. It opens until 21:00 for most of the year (last entry 20:30), an hour earlier from December 1. Two floors up, a free observation tower looks inland to Mount Chokai and along the coast.
The ground floor has a souvenir hall and a produce stand selling vegetables, wild plants and seafood from Nikaho and the neighbouring towns. The second-floor restaurant, Chokai, also faces the sea and serves rice bowls such as kaisendon. Rock oysters from Kisakata are on the menu from early July to mid-August. The restaurant does not take bookings.
The bath closes on the third Monday of each month except July and August, and the whole building closes on a few winter Mondays (December 21, 2026, and January 18 and February 15, 2027). The produce stand shuts at 16:00, well before the rest of the building, so shop first if you plan to stay for sunset.
