About This Destination

Japan's largest entertainment complex, combining over 300 shops with NIFREL aquarium, Japan's tallest Ferris wheel, and immersive attractions beside Expo Park.
LaLaport EXPOCITY is one of Japan's largest shopping-and-entertainment complexes, sitting right beside the Expo '70 Commemorative Park in Suita, north of central Osaka. Beyond more than 300 shops, restaurants, and food courts, it bundles together six entertainment venues that make it a full-day destination in its own right. The headline attractions are NIFREL, an interactive 'living museum' that blends aquarium and zoo, and the Osaka Wheel — at 123 metres, Japan's tallest Ferris wheel, whose sunset and night-time rides offer sweeping views over the city. There's also VS PARK (an indoor sports-entertainment arena), a 109 Cinemas multiplex with IMAX, a Pokemon store, and the ANIPO mini amusement park for small children. The whole complex is fully air-conditioned and stroller-friendly, which makes it a popular refuge during Osaka's fierce July–August heat or on a rainy day. It pairs naturally with the neighbouring Expo Park and its Tower of the Sun for an easy family half-day, and is just a two-minute walk from Banpaku-kinen-koen monorail station.

How do I get to LaLaport EXPOCITY?

From JR Osaka or Umeda Stations, take the Midosuji Subway Line north to Senri-Chuo (about 25 min, ¥330), transfer to the Osaka Monorail, ride two stops to Banpaku-kinen-koen — total 35 minutes from Umeda. From Shin-Osaka Shinkansen Station, the Osaka Monorail directly connects (20 minutes from Shin-Osaka via Senri-Chuo). The mall is a 2-minute walk from the monorail station. Free parking with purchases over ¥3,000.

What attractions besides shopping are at EXPOCITY?

Six entertainment facilities: NIFREL (interactive aquarium-zoo, ¥2,200), Osaka Wheel (Japan's tallest Ferris wheel at 123m, ¥1,000), VS PARK (sports-themed entertainment, ¥3,500), 109 Cinemas with IMAX, Pokemon EXPOCITY pop-up store, and ANIPO mini theme park. Each can be visited separately. The neighbouring Expo '70 Commemorative Park (¥260) with Tower of the Sun makes a half-day combo perfect for families.

What hours and what's the best time to visit?

Shops 10:00–21:00, restaurants 11:00–22:00 (varies). Weekday mornings (10:00–13:00) are quietest; weekends and holidays get very busy. Osaka Wheel runs 10:00–23:00 — sunset rides and night-time city views are spectacular. NIFREL closes at 18:00–20:00 depending on the day. The mall has air-conditioned passages, making it a popular escape from Osaka's summer heat (July–August).

Is EXPOCITY good for families with young children?

Excellent for families. The whole complex is fully stroller-accessible with elevators and ramps, and a dedicated Kids Park play area is on the second floor. Baby supplies (diapers, food, formula) can be bought on site. Free baby-care rooms with nursing booths and warm-water dispensers are scattered throughout. ANIPO mini park has rides for ages 2+. NIFREL is engaging for kids 4+. Note: VS PARK requires age 13+.
