Kikuchi Gorge lies about 17 kilometers east of central Kikuchi City, on the northwestern outer rim of Mount Aso at elevations of roughly 500 to 800 meters. The valley is part of a large recreation forest and is threaded by clear streams that form rapids, deep pools, and a series of small waterfalls. Walking trails follow the water through mixed woodland that is popular for fresh greenery in early summer and for foliage in autumn. A management office operates near the entrance, and the main season runs from April 1 to November 30, with attendants on site from 8:30 to 17:00. As of 2026 parking is free and admission is 500 yen.
