About This Destination

A living-history theme park near Nikko that recreates a town of the Edo period, where costumed residents, ninja and samurai shows, and dress-up experiences let visitors step into old Japan.
Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura recreates a castle town of the Edo period on a wooded site near Kinugawa Onsen, complete with merchant streets, a magistrate's office, ninja houses and a red-light quarter, all staffed by costumed residents who stay in character. Visitors watch ninja action, oiran courtesan processions and comedic theatre, try shuriken throwing and can be dressed as a samurai, ninja, townsperson or even a princess for the day. It is as much a cultural attraction as an amusement park, giving a hands-on sense of daily life in old Japan. The park is a short bus ride from Kinugawa-Onsen Station and pairs naturally with the shrines of Nikko.
