Kawagoe is visited for its clay-walled merchant street and its bell tower, both of which are in the middle of town. The fireworks are not: they are fired from Aina Riverside Park on the western edge of the city, where there is room for a launch site and a crowd on open ground. The 2026 programme is the 32nd, about 6,500 shells, with nothing larger than a 4-go shell. That makes it a smaller night than the summer competitions upriver, and it reads differently for it. The shells sit lower and closer, the pauses are shorter, and by late November the air is cold and clear enough that the smoke clears between sequences instead of hanging over the launch site. It is also the last fireworks date of the year within easy reach of Tokyo.

Getting a good spot

Kasahata on the Kawagoe Line is the closest station at about 25 minutes on foot, and the organisers ask people to use Kasumigaseki on the Tobu Tojo Line or Minami-Otsuka on the Seibu Shinjuku Line instead, both about 50 minutes, because Kasahata cannot clear the crowd afterwards.
