About This Destination

A theme park and active film studio in Uzumasa where you walk an Edo-period townscape used for real samurai-drama shoots, with costumed actors, ninja shows and hands-on transformations.

Toei Kyoto Studio Park, known as Uzumasa Eigamura, doubles as a working backlot for Japanese period dramas and a theme park where visitors stroll an Edo-era townscape of merchant streets, a Nihonbashi bridge and an old courthouse. Costumed actors playing samurai, geisha and townsfolk move through the set, and the day is punctuated by ninja and swordfight shows, a haunted house and hands-on attractions. Visitors can be dressed and made up as a samurai or a maiko for a photo, and indoor exhibits trace the history of Japanese cinema. The park is undergoing a phased renewal into a more immersive attraction and sits a short walk from Uzumasa on the western edge of Kyoto, near Arashiyama.
