About This Destination

A zoo and amusement park rolled into one, about an hour from Tokyo on the Tobu line: around 120 animal species including white tigers, plus the Regina II wooden coaster over the lake and a big summer pool.

Tobu Zoo opened in 1981 and celebrated its 45th anniversary in March 2026. It calls itself a hybrid leisure land, and the label fits: one ticket gets you into a zoo of around 120 species and 1,200 animals and an amusement park, with a large pool complex added in summer. The white tigers are the zoo's best-known residents, and there are feeding sessions you can join.

The rides centre on two coasters over the water. Regina II is a wooden coaster built out over the lake; the original Regina ran from 2000 to 2019, and the renewed ride came back in March 2023. Kawasemi, named after the kingfisher, is billed as a gliding water coaster. Around them are gentler family rides.

Entry and rides are priced separately, so decide early whether you want the attraction-pass set. The grounds are big and flat, which helps with strollers but means a lot of walking between the zoo and the rides. In midwinter and parts of early summer the park closes on some weekdays.
