About This Destination

A grassland plateau of about 38 hectares at the foot of Mount Kururuso, covered in pampas grass that turns silver and gold in autumn.
Soni Kogen is a highland plateau of about 38 hectares spread across the foot of Mount Kururuso in Soni village. The slopes are covered in susuki pampas grass, which shifts from silver-white to gold from late September through November. Walking paths lead across the grassland and up to a small pond and viewpoint, and the plateau is popular with hikers and photographers, especially at sunset. A parking lot serves visitors during the main season, and a farm garden with hot springs sits nearby. Public transport is limited, so most visitors arrive by car, with a seasonal direct bus running in October and November.
